First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

Fishing and family. but not together, that would be crazy. I love fishing, it’s my Zen. Salt and Fresh water, from fly fishing in streams that one backpacks to, to our beautiful beaches surf fishing. I mostly lake fish since it offers such easy access from the house. And as Catherine can atest, I never catch anything. So I find myself hiking through the woods to find that perfect fishing spot, to catch nothing. Taking in the beauty for the trees, the soaring of Bald Eagles above, the occasional walking through a spider web … it’s all good Zen.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

I needed a change. I needed a boost. I needed a game changer.

What was the first workout that you completed?

You mean that one, that day where I almost threw up? Yea that was like each workout since day one.

What are your current and future training goals?

Baby steps, make it to the box consistently.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

I like the transitions and rotations we find in METCOMS. I like that feeling of accomplishment that it feeds me.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

Throwing up on the side of the building.

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

Deadlift and bench press. DL because it’s the only one that I’m “barely” beating Cath on. BP because I was always weak with it.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

I was never a fan of hitting the gym and lifting weights. I was always outside hustling with sports, football, baseball, basketball, surfing, running, etc. That’s all I did, everyday all day. So conditioning I feel is right up my alley but I enjoy breaking it up to challenge me with strength training

Favorite food(s)?

.Everything except veggies!

What are 3 fun facts about you?

1. Hiked Half Dome three times. The first time I was amazed I made it. The second and third times I guided friends through the same backpacking adventure that ended up  on top of the Dome. And that third one, one on knee, Catherine said “Yes” to me!
2. Surfing, skateboarding punk listening dude (past tense on the surfin’ and skatin’).
3. I was a Wilderness Search And Rescue member, as a volunteer, for a Sheriff in Northern CA. Did it for ten years and was one of the most gratifying things I have ever done . We rescued many people, some alive, some not so.  I found a lot of the dead ones, I was very good at it, scary good. But it gave me a good case of PTSD and that wasn’t so good
