First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

Wait… There is life outside of CrossFit?  OK, actually my life is pretty full outside of CrossFit. I’m a military brat who loves to travel.  I hate big cities, although I have lived in DC, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, and Cleveland.  I am a mom of four boys ranging from 14 to 5, Including 11-year-old twins! Most importantly – I love the beach!

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

When the twins became toddlers I realized that I had spent the last 18 months paying very little attention to my health, especially after being very careful during my pregnancy. I decided they needed to change and found a great nutrition program along with a pretty good workout regimen at Lifetime (oops can I say that). Sadly, when I realized that *I* could do the advanced workouts that the instructors were doing I needed a change. My husband, who doesn’t do CrossFit, told me I needed to check out a box. While not his speed at all, he knew the intensity and competition (with myself) was exactly what I was looking for. After feeling a little gun shy and intimidated, I finally went to my first box.  I was sold, and oh so sore. That was 2011 and I haven’t looked back. I am so grateful for Courtney and Anna for introducing me to Surmount! I am home.

What was the first workout that you completed?

I think Cindy was the first girls workout I did.

What are your current and future training goals?

While I absolutely love what I do, my current job (at least pre-COVID) is unpredictable, demanding, and involved a lot of travel.  All of this combined has wrecked havoc on my workout schedule and good nutrition habits. Given our new current reality, I’ve really enjoyed getting back into a rhythm of a minimum of five workouts per week and at least one hike with the kids.  My goal is to continue that and to add the good nutrition piece back in! I’ve done it before, I have no doubt I can do it again.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

SNATCHES! They were the last lift I did pregnant with my youngest. I felt so strong and invincible.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

I’m not a runner. Never have been. Didn’t inherit My dads love for it, but since starting CrossFit I ran my first less than 10 minute mile. I haven’t timed one recently, but even as of late last year I was still there

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

Strength, but I know I need the conditioning.

Favorite food(s)?

What are 3 fun facts about yourself?

I guess I can’t say that I just love the beach 3 times can I?

1. This past fall I completed my once-in-a-lifetime bucket list trip of a cruise through the Panama Canal. When I lived in Panama we’d go down to the locks frequently to see the ships go through.

2. My twins are a rare twinning type (MoMo twins) that occur in less than 1% of all twin pregnancies. The rarity and dangerousness meant that although I and they were healthy I was in the hospital for nearly 9 weeks before the were born.

3.  I really do love the beach. I can tell you about every beach community in North Carolina, but my favorite is Corolla. That is where my husband and I got married.
