First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?
For those of you who don’t know me I am a 6 am’er! The early bird gets the worm in my world. I love Jesus, my wife of 7 years Ashli, my 4 kids Breanna (23), Kody (16), Hayden (4) and Holland (4). I am in medical device sales and have been for 6 years. Outside of CrossFit I am all about my family and being outdoors. I love duck hunting, golf, sports, hunting, fishing, camping, cooking on my smoker and biking. In addition, I love to give back. I am President of my fraternity Alumni Association and a Mentor for a ministry called Truth In Nature where we minister to boys ages 12-17 who come from fatherless homes. I also have had the great opportunity to coach my children in little league sports. (Kody in Pop Warner Football and this past year Hayden and Holland in 3 year old soccer; talk about herding cats!?!?) I am a people person and love to encourage people every chance I get. Everyone is going through something and many times people just need a smile, hello and a kind word! I
Matthew 6:33 says “Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these shall be added unto you.”
How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?
I was really bored of the same old same old gym routine…..(chest on Monday, arms Tuesday, back on Wednesday, etc.) Brad Coats and Arron a s Rebecca are my neighbors and they were really encouraging me to come try it out. I did and immediately fell in love. I am a very competitive person and I immediately found a group of people who pushed themselves in a friendly way to a healthier lifestyle.
What was the first workout that you completed?
Can’t remember exactly but it was with Nick during the on-boarding workout. Believe it was a row, air squats, wall balls and maybe burpees or push-ups. Whatever it was I was thinking wow, this is no joke and honestly it was like 5-6 mins!!!
What are your current and future training goals?
Keep getting better everyday!! Better technique (over head squats, front squats, etc) PR pass workouts, get stronger and gain more endurance. Do a freaking bar muscle up!
What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?
Bench press, push-ups, deadlifts, and pull-ups!
What is your least favorite activity or lift?
Thrusters and Devil Presses – hate them!
What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?
Doing the Murph this year all by myself. Last year I did it with Janet and it was awesome but this year I did the whole workout (minus the pull-up; stupid COVID – did rows instead) by myself! I have a lot of respect for our military and in particular The Seals, so this workout meant a lot to me and the sacrifice our men and women make.
What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?
Strength!! I have always been into lifting and getting stronger so for me it feels natural. Conditioning – not so much. I do enjoy the bike BUT I hate running. The thing with CrossFit is you get both!
How have you handled your training during the quarantine?
First, I am very self motivated and a self starter. Second, routine is everything so I try not to deviate too much. BUT third and most important I had Marni as my check-in coach and to me that was called accountability!!! Thank you Marni!!
Favorite food(s)?
Pizza, Tacos, Steak and a good beer or glass or bourbon.
What are 3 fun facts about yourself?
Yes, I have TWINS!
I went on a mission trip to Haiti in 2018 – talk about realizing just how blessed we are?!
Before sales I was a Fireman with the City of Charlotte (greatest job ever)
