First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

Mom to Luke (13) and Bailey (10), married 14 years to Greg (joined CrossFitSurmount this past November), part-time employee and school volunteer. If I have any spare time and I’m not at CFS, I enjoy being outside, reading, trying a new recipe, or refinishing a piece of furniture.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

Three years ago this month a friend posted on Facebook a Groupon for CrossFitSurmount Boot Camp. I wanted to change up my work-outs as I had been at the same gym for years and was bored with my routine.   Although I was extremely intimidated to try, CFS is one of the best decisions I’ve made! Since I have joined I have taken a more healthy approach (mentally and physically) to weight reduction and exercise. In addition, the people I get to walk along side in my fitness/health journey are wonderful at this box!  I know athletic I am not; however, I am an athlete! CrossFithas helped me with this way of thinking!

What was the first workout that you completed? What do you remember most about the workout?

I do not remember the first workout specifically. I just remember that it involved squats! I recall vividly Coach Paul saying, ‘We’ll work on those’…hmmm. I am certain I didn’t walk normally for a few days! I remember the workout was difficult for me, but fun and engaging!

What are your current and future training goals?

In terms of goals, current and future, I want to run under a 10-minute mile, get an unassisted pull-up and reduce my body-fat percentage to 20%.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

My favorite lift is the dead-lift. I’ve got the form down and when I perform a dead-lift I actually feel like I have lifted a lot of weight! I also really enjoy when we have workouts that involve a list of activities and a certain number of reps. I feel like I am ‘chipping’ away at something and walk out feeling accomplished.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

My least favorite activity and/or lift is anything overhead. The whole lifting above my head is such a phenomenon to me! By nature I am only competitive with myself; but, sometimes I find myself staring in disbelief at someone half my size lifting twice as much! This is probably the reason the coaches tell me on overhead lift days to “Get out of my head!”

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

I know this must sound crazy to most CrossFit athletes, but I don’t focus on the PRs. Even when I am last on the Whiteboard (which is most WODs), I feel so accomplished — whether I got a PR or not. A big accomplishment for me was completing the CrossFit Games! After completing I knew if I could tackle 16.5 I could eventually do anything! I think my proudest and “a-ha” moment was this past Summer. I had the honor with my sister to care for our grandmother until she took her final breath. The last few days of her life I had to carry her 90-pound body to the restroom, her chair and her bed. I was able to do so with such ease and she was able to maintain her comfort and dignity. I remember in those moments being so grateful for CrossFit Surmount. I told myself for as long as my body would allow, I WILL do CrossFit.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

I like both strength and conditioning, and it would be tough to pick one. I enjoy and not enjoy aspects of both activities. Running is much more fun than it used to be as I have completed three rounds of Endurance!  I am NOT a natural runner so I was willing to try anything!

Do you eat Paleo/Zone?

I estimate I eat 75% Paleo. The Lurong Challenges have really helped with teaching me to eat, cook, and enjoy Paleo!

What are 3 fun facts about yourself?

  1. I do not have any cavities.
  2. I was vegetarian for 12 years before I had my kids.
  3. My actual name is Kimberly–I’m only called ‘Kimber’ at CFS and love it!
