First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

My family (husband & two kids) moved to North Carolina 2 years ago after spending almost 15 years in California.  I keep busy with my career and trying to raise two well adjusted, balanced kids.  I love music, traveling, and volleyball.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

I was looking for a way to improve my health and physical fitness, especially after two pregnancies and working long hours at the office.  I had heard and read about CrossFit and wanted to try it when we first moved here.  Finally made the time.  Really glad I did.

What was the first workout that you completed? What do you remember most about the workout?

My first workout was during the Lurong Challenge.  I vaguely remember (brain fog from utter exhaustion) squats, box jumps, push ups, and Maxine, who was super encouraging and kind enough to count my reps.  I loved it!

What are your current and future training goals?

I’m currently out of town for almost a month so my goal has been to drop-in at various boxes around the country 3 to 4 times a week.  So far, so good.  Lots of friendly CrossFitters out there.  Will be back at CFS in mid-July.   Future training goals are long: continue improving my overall fitness, reduce my BF%, improve my lifting form (esp. OHS and snatches), say goodbye to step ups and actually box jump, do a handstand, and drastically improve on any activity which requires hanging from the bar.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

Squats.  All types.  Love them.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

A burpee.  A couple burpees.  Lots of burpees.  Any number of burpees.  Did I mention burpeess?!?

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

Pushing myself, beyond my perceived limits, to complete every WOD next to all of you badass athletes.  Box jumps, rope climbs, OHS….that stuff is brutal!   It’s working out with such an incredibly supportive group of people that keeps me coming back, pushing myself to do better each WOD.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

Strength.  I love the feeling of pushing around big weight.

Do you eat Paleo/Zone?

No. However, I just started counting macros a couple months ago.  It has helped tremendously, not only with weight loss, but with overall energy & performance during the WODs.

What are 3 fun facts about yourself?

  • I married my high school sweetheart a year after we graduated from college.
  • My kids had the same due date (three years apart).  Thankfully, they don’t share the same birthday.
  • I played Junior Olympic Volleyball for years.
