First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

My interests outside of CrossFit include my family, Professional Football (Steelers Fan), movies and TV and I like to read. I mostly read fiction but I do love a good historical book if the subject can hold my interest.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

My wife found some kind promotion that offered two free Saturday Community Workout sessions. We both came and I really liked it, and joined CrossFit Express (CrossFit Bootcamp at the time) and have been coming ever since.

What was the first workout that you completed? What do you remember most about the workout?

I don’t remember the workouts for those first two Saturdays, but I do remember my first Express workout which I believe was a METCON with pushups and jumping pullups involved. Everyone finished early and we thought we were done, but Coach Deborah had us do a tabata admat situps. My abs burned for days after that one.  At this point, I had completed 3 CrossFit workouts and had not done the same exercise twice. In my many failed attempts to workout at a gym, lifting weights over the years, I would get bored after a few weeks of doing the same thing over and over. So I knew that CrossFit was different and I would never get bored and I haven’t.

What are your current and future training goals?

My main goal is to get in the best shape I can so I can be here on this earth with my family longer. My wife and I had our two little girls later in life, and I want to do everything I can to make sure I am around for them if and when they need me.

Another more immediate goal, is to complete Hero WOD Murph Memorial Day 2017. I know it’s a big goal, but you have to aim high, right?

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.

My favorite activity is the Rowing Machine. I’ve always wanted to be part of a rowing crew, but my weight and physical conditioning was always an issue. So maybe in a few months after more weight loss and training I can get there.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

Dip-Drive-Dip, I just can’t do it yet.

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

Dumbbell deadlifts 1 lift max. I kept increasing weight and got to 200 lbs. (100 lbs in each hand). Never thought that I would be able to lift that much.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

Conditioning. I always feel I have accomplished more through conditioning.

Do you eat Paleo/Zone?

I am about 60% Paleo, I don’t know if that low percentage counts as Paleo though.

What are 3 fun facts about yourself?

  1. I have a wife and two daughters age 4 and 6. They are my everything!
  2. I was in the US Navy
  3. I am originally from Pittsburgh, but moved here because I hate the cold.
