First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

I have two younger siblings…a 2 year old sister and a 6 month old brother. And I help my parents take care of them. When quarantine started two years back, I developed an interest in cooking and baking. The beginning was bit chaotic since I burned a few things. And it wasn’t just the food by the way. A couple other utensils and pans met their end on the way. Most importantly, I play tennis after school and I plan to go pro.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

My tennis coach and even my parents recommended that I build some muscle to get better in tennis. We started searching for gyms near our home and CFS was the closest. I had also heard about Crossfit training being one of the toughest. I’ve even heard people say that CrossFit pushes people too hard. I wanted to see what it was all about so I completed my no sweat trial with Coach Marni and on ramp with Coach Tom to join CFS.

What was the first workout that you completed?

I’m not sure of the name or really the whole workout. I remember that it involved a lot of rowing, ring-rows, wall-balls, and some deadlifts or cleans. I started with an empty barbell but it was still very hard.

What are your current and future training goals?

Master kipping pull-ups, add at least 40lbs to my deadlift, and clean and jerk 1 rep max by next December. Get under 1 min 30 sec row for 500m. Do a hero wod.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

I love deadlifts. This lift works so many muscles at the same time and I find it very helpful.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

The snatch; it fries my shoulders every time. When I did it the first time with 50lbs, I couldn’t support the weight and the barbel went fell back. I almost twisted my arm that time.

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

Recently, I improved my snatch 1 rep max to 90lbs. Although the snatch is my least favorite exercise, I’m proud of this PR because it showed me that I was getting stronger and more comfortable being the most uncomfortable I can be.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

Before I joined CrossFit, I loved conditioning but hated strength simply because I wasn’t strong. Now I have to say that strength is my new favorite because I love the fact that my results can be measured and seen easily.

Favorite food(s)?

Salmon grill, tacos but really anything Mexican though. I also love lentils.

What are 3 Fun Facts About Yourself:

  1. I had an open surgery around my right armpit-chest area. I started tennis as a right handed player to recover.

  2. I found out I was lefty playing tennis at 4 years old.

  3. I can read, write and almost fluently speak French.
