First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit? I love spending time with my son, daughter, and wife! I am actively involved in leading my son’s Cub Scout Bear Den (shout out to Pack 312!), participating in Y Guides with my daughter (shout out to the Gold Stars!), carting both kids to Soccer practice, and some how still carving out time to spend with the lovely and talented! Also, I’ve recently been training to beat Jaclyn in December’s double under challenge.
How and why did you get involved in CrossFit? I was fat….and there was a CrossFit Groupon. Then I met Thom, Jaclyn, Laurie, Fernando, Mike….the list goes on and on. It became less about HAVING to work out and more about WANTING to work out. The CrossFit community, and our’s in particular, is awesome!
What was the first workout that you completed? What do you remember most about the workout? I honestly don’t remember my first CrossFit workout. Back in the day we had composition notebooks and we would jot the WOD down and our results. I think the dog ate my homework. I do remember scaling…heavily. And breathing hard. And a sense of accomplishment. And I was sore for 4 days afterward. Sounds about right.
What are your current and future training goals? After 4 1/2 years of CrossFit, PR’s don’t come as often as they used to. I FINALLY got my first ring muscle up a few weeks ago. Next up is a body weight snatch. And beating Jaclyn in December’s double under challenge.
What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.? I used to gravitate more towards the classic Olympic barbell movements like Snatch and Clean & Jerk but have recently found more love in METCON’s and gymnastics movements like muscle ups. Also, double unders. And more specifically beating Jaclyn in December’s double under challenge.
What is your least favorite activity or lift? I don’t like box jumps, and I don’t like performing dead-lifts in a WOD.
What PR are you most proud of achieving and why? Ring Muscle Up! Seriously, I didn’t think it would ever happen. Also, beating Jaclyn in the double under challenge.
What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why? This is a tough question to answer. I think both are important and I love that CrossFit incorporates both into their programming. I also enjoy beating Jaclyn in double under challenges.
Favorite food(s)? Bojangles Cajun Filet Chicken Egg and Cheese Biscuit. Eating Jaclyn’s lunch in the double under challenge.
What are 3 fun facts about yourself? I hate running but I love obstacle running courses like Spartan, Tough Mudder, etc., I signed up to run my first 1/2 marathon in March (did I mention I hate running?), I plan on beating Jaclyn in December’s double under challenge.
