First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

I’m a mom to three pretty awesome kids and married to Ryan who is an amazing guy. I’m a lucky girl!  I read a lot, like the outdoors (minus mosquitos and poison ivy), and enjoy creating things with yarn and fabric. I’m currently learning to quilt and it’s very fun and challenging.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

That’s a complicated answer but stress-related health issues forced me to start exercising and eating better. When my trainer opened his own gym I followed him…and I had no idea what I was getting into at that point! When I moved to NC, joining a CrossFit box was also a way for me to connect with new people and make friends.

What was the first workout that you completed? What do you remember most about the workout?

I remember doing 14.5 at my box in Michigan and absolutely dying in the round of 18 with the realization that I still had a long way to go before I finished. 14.5 still messes with my head. My first WOD at Surmount was Cindy and I have blocked the memory. I’m sure that there was a rainbow of bands on the pull up bar!

What are your current and future training goals?

My current goal is to get to the gym five days a week which is not always easy! I’d like to have a more efficient kettlebell swing, string together some pull ups, snatch 100 pounds, and get a ring dip before I pass from this world.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

Snatches and overhead squats are my favorite lifts. I especially like lift sequences such as the bear complex. But really, any kind of lifting makes me happy.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

Probably rope climbs and pistols.

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

My rope climb. I did it right after I turned 40 and it was a nice reminder of how far I’ve come in my CrossFit journey.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

Strength. I like working toward a number plus even a failed rep can be pretty amazing.

Do you eat Paleo/Zone?

I go through cycles.

What are 3 fun facts about yourself?

I didn’t get my driver’s license until I turned nineteen.

I’m terrible at telling stories and jokes. I usually forget an important point or the punchline.

I grew up in a military family and went to high school in Belgium.
