First, tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your interests outside of CrossFit?

Hello, My name is Jacob Ryan de Leon. Outside of CrossFit I usually try to be productive with my day by going outdoors to play soccer, basketball, or to swim. I also like to party on the weekends which reflects my performance on Sunday classes.

How and why did you get involved in CrossFit?

Crossfit has always been apart of my life growing up, but it wasn’t until around November of 2016 when I became more active in the Crossfit community. I wanted to better myself as a person and CrossFit has really molded me to become a better man.

What was the first workout that you completed?

I can’t remember the first workout I ever did, but one of my firsts was the Xander WOD that my dad and I completed at CrossFit Durham. I remember during the workout that I was struggling with just about every movement but I didn’t want to stop because everybody was watching and also because I wanted to impress my father.

What are your current and future training goals?

My current goals for myself right now are to make it to the regionals next year. I’ve been trying to train at least 2-3 times a day, but that doesn’t always happen.  Looking into the Future I just hope to stay fit and active in the Crossfit Community.

What is your favorite activity or lift, e.g., pull-ups, dead-lifts, running, front squats, snatches, burpees, etc.?

My favorite lift is snatches. I think I enjoy performing this lift so much because there’s so much technique that come along with it. When I first started out CrossFit I had no idea what proper form was for this movement, but as I keep performing it I notice that my form progress which is very fulfilling.

What is your least favorite activity or lift?

My least favorite lift are sumo deadlift high pulls because I just think the movement is useless and it also just kills my back.

What PR are you most proud of achieving and why?

My PR I’m most proud of achieving was just being able to do pull-ups without any bands. This was achieving for me because I was once not able to do pull ups at all! I would have to use multiple bands and even still have to jump to complete multiple reps, and now I can do butterfly pull ups which I think look sweet.

What do you enjoy more, strength or conditioning and why?

I enjoy conditioning more I think because it’s higher intensity and I think that’s more what CrossFit is about.

Do you eat Paleo/Zone?

No I do not eat Paleo or Zone. I usually try to eat clean, but if I do consume junk food I make the most of it.

What are 3 fun facts about yourself?

  • In kindergarten I pulled a kid’s pants down because he was taking too long at the water fountain
  • I model for soccer.com every now and then
  • I did a commercial for NCHSAA that is shown all around North Carolina
